The second annual OC ICON solo vocal competition for Southern CA youth ages: 7-18 will return to Orange on Saturday, June 19th. The qualifying auditions will take place at The Village at Orange shopping center at 10am!

OC ICON (formerly called OC Idol), is a 4-month-long talent competition for young singers between the ages of 7 and 18. The contest is divided into three age divisions: 7-10, 11-14 & 15-18. Hundreds of kids compete for a chance to be one of 30 finalists who will perform in a professional concert-style finale in front of a live theater audience and a panel of celebrity judges. The three winners (one from each age division) will each receive identical prize packages including: professional headshots, vocal coaching, two songs professionally recorded and a music video.

ICON has already had some success stories. Contestants have used the experience and knowledge gained from our event to go on to bigger things including:
� Featured singers on International tours
� Signed with agents
� Signed record, development or production deals as part of a group or as soloists
� One of the ICON finalists made it to the top 30 of the 2009 season of American Idol.
"The two things we are most proud of are: creating an exciting and supportive atmosphere for the competition and giving kids a fantastic and professional platform to showcase their talent," said Dan Calvillo, technical director for WBZB Entertainment, producers of the annual events. "All the contestants get positive and constructive feedback from the qualifying judges and the 30 finalists get direct feedback from the panel of celebrity judges and industry veterans which have included Grammy, Emmy and Tony award nominees."

In the final concert event, 3 winners will be chosen by combining the votes from the theater audience in attendance that evening and the celebrity judges. The judges each get 10% of the vote and the audience gets the lion share with 60-70%.

In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, The Korea Society presents a special screening of Chosin, a documentary film that preserves the personal stories of veterans who survived the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. In the harsh winter of 1950, numerically inferior American forces found themselves surrounded by the Chinese People's Volunteer Army. In addition to the enemy, the Americans battled the rugged Korean terrain and arctic conditions to break out of the encirclement and escort approximately 91,000 refugees to safety. For their actions, American servicemen received 14 Medals of Honor and 70 Navy Crosses (more than were awarded for the Battle of Iwo Jima). Chosin will be the first documentary film to tell their remarkable story. It won Best Documentary Feature award at the GI Film Festival 2010.

The Creativity Workshop will take place in the historic village of Carmel-by-the Sea. This jewel-like town on the Californian Central Coast is home to beautiful sandy beaches, quaint cottages, lovely restaurants, and fine art galleries. There is frequent bus service to the city of Monterey (8 miles distant) which has one of the best aquariums in the US as well as some fine 18th and 19th century architecture. You can also rent a car or take a bus tour to many nearby locations, such as the towering cliffs and crashing waves of Big Sur. The Workshop will take place at Il Fornaio in the Pine Inn, Carmel's oldest hotel.

Each day the Creativity Workshop in Carmel-by-the-Sea will meet for 3 hours (10:30 AM to 1:30 PM). We will explore ways to expand our creativity through a series of exercises including guided visualization technique, automatic drawing and writing, map making, memoir, and storytelling. Throughout the workshop, the exercises and talks by the instructors will focus on ways to:

Get over creative blocks and the fear of failure

The Sword: Dara Brighton is a young paraplegic college student with a happy, normal life, until three strangers knock on her family's door, demanding a particular sword. After the deaths of her father, mother and sister, Dara is left in the burning house and crashes into the basement, where she finds the sword, setting her off on an incredible search for vengeance. In The Sword #24 the highly anticipated finale arrives as Dara Brighton's epic quest for revenge against the three god-siblings who murdered her family comes to its conclusion.

The Luna Brothers are the creators of ULTRA, GIRLS, and THE SWORD (all Image Comics). Their works also include SPIDER-WOMAN: ORIGIN (Marvel Comics), written by Brian Michael Bendis and Brian Reed. The Luna Brothers were born in California and spent most of their childhood overseas, and returned to the United States in their late teens. Writing and drawing comics since they were children, they both graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with BFAs in Sequential Art.

This is a program for Veterans 55 years and older who is receiving care from the department of Veterans affairs. The concept is to promote optimal involvement of senior veterans by enhancing their mental, social, physical and emotional well being and to improve their quality of life. We are seeking funding support(Donation's) to help senior veterans attend these activities.
The Veterans will compete in Olympic style event rule's! Their are wheelchair and ambulatory categories as well. Events include 'Cycling, Horseshoe's(Flore r Park), Golf(Blank Golf Course), Checker's, Table Tennis, Croquet, VCS Bingo, Air Rifle, Domino's, Swimming, Billiards, Shuffleboard, Shot-Put, Discus Throw, Bowling, Kayaking Clinic / Exhibition, depending the medical abilities of each Veteran.
Each veteran is allowed and encouraged to partake into four events in this week of challenges. To challenge them selves for the Iowa Gold. �The estimated cost for each participant is $1800.00 which almost includes transportation, food, and lodging for the 7-day trip. There are many Senior US Veterans that are wanting too go. That are interested in participation in this Nation Wide(United States) event all summed up in Iowa 2010. About the Speakers

Park Chan-ok won International Film Festival Rotterdam's 2003 Tiger Award and the Pusan Film Festival's New Current Award for her critically acclaimed debut Jealousy is My Middle Name. In 2010 her highly anticipated second feature, Paju, became the first-ever South Korean work selected as the opening film for International Film Festival Rotterdam. Park's work offers subtle but tense portraits of anti-heroes confronting society.

Lee Yong-ju made his directorial debut with the 2009 horror film Possessed, which employed familiar genre imagery in chilling new ways in order to explore fanatical religion and superstition. Lee honed his craft as an assistant director on Bong Joon-ho's Memories of Murder.

Ounie Lecomte debuted as a director with the 2009 film A Brand New Life, based on her experiences in a Korean orphanage in the mid-1970s. A Brand New Life received awards at the 2010 Tokyo, Palm Springs and Berlin International Film Festivals.

DV8 returns with Gods and Monsters #1. The story of eight troubled teenagers who were briefly gods to a prehistoric world set against the backdrop of a cataclysmic disaster, written by Brian Wood with art by Rebekah Isaacs.

Brian Wood is best known for his creator-owned works that include Demo, The Couriers, Channel Zero, Local and Supermarket. Currently under an exclusive contract for DC/Vertigo, Wood continues his work with DMZ, Northlanders, Demo, The New York Four and DV8.
Rebekah Isaacs has worked as a guest artist on Hack/Slash before working as series artist on Drafted and a Sheena miniseries. Her first mainstream work was doing a fill-in issue of Ms. Marvel with writer Brian Reed. Immediately after, she signed on to WildStorm's miniseries revival of DV8.

Becky Cloonan started collaborating with writer Brian Wood on Channel Zero: Jennie One in 2003. Since then, her best-known work to date has been the twelve-issue comics series Demo, also with Wood. Wizard named Demo its 2004 "Indie of the Year." The series was also nominated for two Eisner Awards in 2005, for Best Limited Series and Best Single Issue (#7, "One Shot, Don't Miss").

The Flavors Gala is a national culinary event that spotlights 30 of San Diego�s premier chefs and creates an extraordinary gourmet experience for each guest. Proceeds from the Gala will directly benefit the American Liver Foundation � Pacific Coast and Hawaii Division, helping fund treatments and cures for over 100 known liver and gallbladder diseases which effect infants, children and adults.

Flavors of San Diego has become the premier gourmet event made possible by the enthusiasm, dedication and generosity of the amazing chefs and restaurants in our community. This is a memorable evening where San Diegans get to see these culinary masters at work�showcasing their imaginations and exceptional talents�while also benefiting the American Liver Foundation.

About the Flavors of�Culinary Galas
Flavors of... was first stirred together by the Arizona Chapter of the American Liver Foundation in 1992 as its first major event to raise money for research and education. It was an immediate success. Since 1999, other ALF Chapters have taken advantage of the success of Flavors of�, bringing this unique culinary experience to their own market. There are now nineteen chapters that have made Flavors of... an integral part of their event calendar.

Airing a new supernatural tale each week since 1977, KBS� Korean Ghost Stories series has become a genuine cultural phenomenon in Korea, where it�s known by the title Hometown of Legend. The Korea Society is bringing the phenomenon to American audiences, screening eerie, hour-long episodes on the third Thursday of November and December, beginning on Thursday, November 19 and continuing on Thursday, December 17.

Drawn from ancient folklore, Korean Ghost Stories� tales tell of tortured ghosts and supernatural curses in a uniquely Korean context. Women are forefront. Forced by Confucian culture to be subservient in life, in Korea�s ghost stories they return from the dead to take their revenge on the men who caused them misery. The tales also touch on Korean attitudes towards justice, suggesting that the duty of the powerful to protect the powerless transcends even the grave.

Author, mythology scholar and director of the Interstitial Studies Institute at SUNY New Paltz, Heinz Insu Fenkl will introduce Korean Ghost Stories with a talk on the show�s important connections to Korean folklore and culture.
The series will then begin with an episode titled Nine-Tailed Fox, which tells the story of how the Lee family made a deal with a nine-tailed fox, a malevolent spirit of Korean mythology, to ensure its prosperity for generations. But family�s peace begins to fall apart when their youngest daughter uncovers the dark secret.

-Screening of Haunted House and The Reincarnated Princess
-Thursday, December 17, 2009 � 6:30 PM

The second installment of Korean Ghost Stories features two spine tingling episodes. In Haunted House, the ghost of a young woman haunts the family members who sold her into a life of corruption before she died. In The Reincarnated Princess, the supernatural intrigue continues as two sisters return from the grave to seduce and punish the men who killed them.

ChildBirth with Hypnosis is a five week course designed and coordinated by two experienced Miami hypnotherapist, Marlene Pardo BS CHt and Julia Benitez DOULA CHt, who understand the needs of women and families who have the desire to experience the birthing process the way mother nature meant it to be.

With hypnosis learn techniques that will provide the deep relaxation and concentration you want to have in your birthing experience.

5 Week group classes (2-5 couples) start July 1st, 2009 until July 29th from 7-9pm (4-6pm en espa�ol), Cost is $299 which includes $50 non-refundable registration fee, and balance is due 1st day of class. Classes will be held at La Quinta Inn 10821 Caribben Dr., Cutler Bay, FL 33189.
